...in the garden of ivyl!!!

IVY GARDEN OF THE DESERT
DOOM/STONER/PSYCH
ITALY

Straight from Trevisio, Italy the power constilation of Andrea, Paolo and Diego release their third full lenght concept album named "I Ate Of The Plant And It Was Good" and it is directly conected to their forerunners "Docile" (2011) and "Love Is Blood" (2012).
"They thought they were playing stoner, but people actually say they don't..." is their description quote on the genre line on facebook. That's right because it's not only simple Stoner Rock but high quality varied rock music with a interesting mix out of progressive rock parts, slower doom parts and driven portion hard rock and in the end there are also some stoner rock influences.

I saw them at the Freak Valley Festival and i was really impressed by this nice guys from Italy. At the drive home from the festival i had the possibility to listen to their album accurate and had a lot of fun with this.
Song's like "Deeper Than Deep", "Ohcysprotom" and "Hang Glider" show the whole spectrum of their skills. Exactly this is what makes the band unique. They create their own sound and so they distinguish to all the other bands in this genre. I'm really happy about this discovery on the main stage at freak valley. The live show had a huge pressure and the progressive parts reminded me stromg on the band "TOOL", with a good feeling on stage and a great performance which they played and a  great set.  So they could impressed a lot of the people i think.
You also have the honor to get your own copy of the Ivy Row. Check out their available records and merchandise on their sites.

...build in fire...

FIRELORD
STONE ROCK/DOOM METAL
ITALY

Firelord start up in Turin in 2007 from the ashes of a Doom Metal project named Saint Judas
founded by Mario E. Bussini few years before. In 2007 Beppe Tozza, Daniele Biffaro and Giulio Buscaglione joined the project. The band plays some covers and a couple of draft tunes heavy influenced by Black Sabbath, Count Raven, Gates of Slumber, Earthride, Saint Vitus and Wino projects, Doom scene, Stoner and Metal until '80s.
Many problems and changes happened to the lineup, until 2011 when get stable with the entrance of bass player Dario Giuva, who joins the project and partecipate to realase of the four tracks recorded in the first Firelord EP "The Burning EP".
2013' lineup is formed by Mario E.Bussini (voice, guitars), Giulio Buscaglione (drums) and Mario
Pappano (bass). The band is in studio writing new tunes for the first full lenght.

"Trying to describe firelords music style, I would say it is type of stoner-doom-metal with a footstamping groove and a additional influences of Black Sabbath. After the first song/intro "Among the snakes" "Man of mayhem" sounds more like classic metal with a punch of dirtn'roll, however this one did not impress me that much, but it still rocks! This track is followed by "Black Kommander" which has more uptempo parts in it than the first songs. It made me footwhippin and headbanging. The song "Ghost Of Eymerich" is a doomful groover which lasts over 11 minutes. At first the song comes slow and hard, but at 6.30 the tempo speeds up. The solo is a classic one which gives you a short view back into the 70's...Black Sabbath fans will totally like it! "Road to hell"continues the direction with some cool bassparts and deep guitars. "Werewolf" starts with a classic horror movie sample and goes into a straight rocking tune. The midtempo and raw voices make this song to one of my favorite songs on this debut. Finally follows the Sabbath cover "Children of the Grave"which is faster than the original. When you listen trough it and you know who's song it is...but with the voice of singer Mario Bussini  create a dirt'n'roll tribute to Black Sabbath....very very well! Last but not least, Among the snakes part II completes the album. This song is also more a bit more uptempo and heavy. The dirty voice adds up to a coherent foot masher..."

...Australasia...

AUSTRALASIA
POST-ROCK/ METAL
ITALY

AUSTRALASIA is a childhood spent listening to Ennio Morricone's
soundtracks; a youth on the sharp edge of the underground,
extreme metal scene; a whole life sunk into the Post-rock molten wax
with a strong fascination for the sound of vintage synthesizers.

This is the place where unusual soundscapes come to life:
ethereal guitars mix with blast beat drums and black metal riffing,
giving birth to strange and fast-flowing tunes.

Here subterranean streams alternate with tidal waves,
turning into cinematic pictures that can last just the blink of an eye.
A path distant from the typical instrumental music clichés.

This is "Sin4tr4", our way.

GET IT HERE

"Get prepared for few relaxing minutes cause AUSTRALASIA does a very smooth and appeasing sound. Every song will take you on a ride to different dimensions. From lovely, melodic clean parts to more atmospheric post-metal or pure fresh blasting parts, the sound is full and does not spend one second in silence. Your ears will have enough to do when you listen to "Vertebra" and their ten totally organic forming songs. Only the digital synth combination is not really my smack, as well as filtering out the feeling of the song in this area, however that's only my opinion. The female voice comes very smooth and fits in the whole world of AUSTRALASIA. A quite good band straight from Italy, check them out!!!"

WISDOOM
ITALY
DOOM/SLUDGE
HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS

The Wisdoom is a heavy psych sludge band based in Rome (Italy) and formed at the end of 2010 by Dario Iocca, Francesco Pucci and after joined by Luigi Costanzo and Daniele Neri.

In June 2011 the band released their first self-title EP that received enthusiastic feedbacks from the critics and audiences, so much that the song “Katabasis” has been selected to be part of the soundtrack of the movie “Paura” by the italian masters of explotations films Manetti Bros.
They are now going to release for the label Heavy Psych Sounds Records: “Hypothalamus”, their first full length with 4 brand new songs for 45 minutes of pure ecstatic violence through a desperate and lysergic trip over sleep phases. "Hypothalamus" is mixed and mastered by Lorenzo Stecconi (who worked with Ufomammut, The Secret and his band Lento)
The Wisdoom have also shared the stage with world renowned bands such as Orange Goblin, Eyehategod, Hate, Peter Pan Speedrock, and taking part in festivals like Duna Jam, Stoned Hand Of Doom and Acid Fest.

GET IT HERE

""THE WISDOOM" is a down tuned pressure surfing band with a traditional italian doom attitude like Ufomammut or Lento. I didn’t expect the good sound quality, however thanks to Lorenzo Stecconis skills it comes fat like a wall. Speaking of their music, it hasn’t really surpised me as it is nothing new in the world of doom, but it definitely has function and is well structured, therefore I like what I hear.

The spooky and echoing voice comes to the right point and gives you a roomful feeling. The permanent up and downs of the songs are pleasant to listen to, but sometimes it makes it hard to follow the whole song cause of the riff repetitions. If you like riff orianted Doom and Sludge with some space parts you will like "Hypothalamus" too, its full of power and dark energy. After their first bigger shows(Desert Fest Berlin; Stoned Hand of Doom) I'm curious what will happen in the future. Thumb up for this new and fresh band!""

...I've lost the moon...

Lost Moon
Stoner/Psych Rock
Italy

Guest Review from Billy Goate of Doomed & Stoned

Lost Moon is a heavy stoner “tribal” band that originated in the 90’s with brothers Stefano and Pierluigi Paolucci, on guitars/vocals and drums, respectively. At the present review, they are a four-piece joined on bass by Adolfo Calandro, with Francesco Panarese providing percussions. Based in Rome, Italy, ‘Lost Moon’ have put out a number of albums over the years including Lost Moon (2002) and this was followed by ‘King of Dogs’ (2008).Their third record is ‘Tales From The Sun’ (2013), Lost Moon’s first release on the label Ozium Records, and will be the subject of this review. In the future, we can expect a new album later in 2014 on Lost Moon’s new label, Karma Conspiracy Records. Now, on to ‘Tales From the Sun’
(2013).
From the 8-track EP, three of my favorite songs were “Ransom,” “Lay Your Hands Down on Me,” and the title track, “Tales From The Sun.” All of them could achieve mainstream radio play, with a sound that is tight, focused, and pleasingly heavy. Play the title track and several things will jump out and grab you: first, the unusually strong rhythm of the bass/drums (this is where the “tribal” comes in); second, the vocals are pleasantly reminiscent of John Garcia (Vista Chino); third, the guitar whips up a storm of stoner influences from Kyuss to Dozer. This is music you take with you on a road trip or to the gym. Lost Moon’s driving beat, up-tempo guitars, and bright vocals are best appreciated on the go—and if you’re sitting still, you’ll want to be moving when you hear the hard-hitting beat the band has become known for. One other piece of advice: turn it up….LOUD. You can’t appreciate Lost Moon’s ‘Tales From The Sun’ at low volumes!

...the art of sludge...

BRUNT
UK
Stoner/Psych Rock

"Lofty riffs floating amongst fluffy clouds pour bursts of flavor creating the ultimate iTunes visualizer. Fluorescent atmosphere combines with 50 shades of groove to bring faith back into the power of instrumental stoner rock. Apt comparisons cannot be denied ranking along the lines of Karma to Burn.

Almost tribal like drum blasts intensify the already psychedelic vibe. Feeling of rapture levitating the mind into a whirlwind of excitement. Soaring amongst the highest kites, Brunt electrify the auditory senses with riff after riff and groove after groove.

GET IT HERE FOR 2 BUCKS

"Brunt do not only have a graphic artist who does a great job concerning their cover and promotion, they also function as a ingenious instrumental band with a cool jam atmosphere. I like the beginnings of the songs a lot which are very innovative and then turn into the main groove. The solos gave the instrumental music a content and so the guys always guarantee fresh input. Boredom is definitely not to hear, the whole album comes groovy and fat...thumbs up again for another great band from the UK."

...time for some flower blues...

Alice Tambourine
Go Down Records
Italy
Psychedelic Blues

You wanna ride down the Route 66 with a bottle of Whiskey, your last bucks, a hot chick, a fucked up bottleneck guitar on the right place, and a voice like jefferson airplane , coven or nowaredays jex thoth, sabbath assemly or something like that?
Welcome to the weired psychedelic World of Alice Tamourine Lover! A really smooth groovy psychedelic bluesy folk journey threw a great world of instruments, tones, tunes and vibes!
Shame over my head, but i never heard of them before. Maybe thats why i am impressed so much of this masterpiece. I really like Blues and when it is psychedelic and funky too, thats my ride!
There are so much Tracks that i only wanna write over the whole Album and what i think about it. The Vocals very softly fiting in the wah n fuzzed up psychedelic blues guitars. Some Bottleneck, Harp and Tambourine inlays and other great Stuff rounds up the mixture.
There are only two artist who make sound for about a whole band. If you want so...like the White Stripes but clearly different.
It only remembers on stoner stuff because of the „simple“ but mindbreaking riffing.
On the first few Tracks you can enjoy the very awesome voice of Alice.
But then the fourth track starts and „gipsy mind“ defenetly kicked me to another planet like a afterhour with the band of Gipsys and Hendrix. Really awesomse psychedelic love sound which couldn´t be played better from the old garde.
It is very nice to hear another album without the standard brew where they think they should play or the producers say that they should play this or that.
For me it is a new age hippie masterpiece of their own psychedelic stoner blues sight, wide away from the flood of modern Stoner that comes over us. Just see it like a present with a huge mixture of all tones a psychedelic stoneardhead will dream from.
„Between the Cup and Lips“ impressed me with the awesome Guitar bottleneck lick and the wah effekt which is strickly awesome (and my favorite track up there). PLAY IT LOUD!

Pink is the new Black...

Pinkemical Sunset
Italy
 Hard Rock/Prog Rock

Ok, lets get it on... at first it sounds very groovy and funky on "My Woman" with a huge bass sound and after all that,
BOOM! the vocalist gives a asskick with his voice and starts with the crew the whole thing on.
The vocals are very massive and sounds a little bit like Ragga Reggae or Tribe Metal sometimes.
Mostly very fat bad ass angry deep voluminous stuff and on the other hand there are sometimes
cleaner parts with some effects on a few parts.
The whole album is very fuzzy, but for sure not for every Stonerhead i think.
What the track length belongs is all in the lower range with about 3 to 5 minutes.
A Phaser beams Us into "Paranoia", the second track. Some good arranged drum parts gives this track a personal note.
But like all tracks straight, slow, deep, hard and short.
In "Change" they really change the sound, now it gets a little bit more melodic, and some good breaks rounds up the track.
Guitar solos are not really much there... in "Absynth" you can hear one, and even that is more in the background.
The sound is pretty direct and straight. Sometimes the Voice remembers me on Nu-Metal / Alternative stuff or something.
But sounds still like underground Stuff and did not get "commercial" or something.
"Orgasm" starts with a smooth slow clean reefer tone. Some ambient sounds came through too the first time, and the bass sounds awesome here.
the vocals sounds very dirty, like a heroin shot through the microphone.
Time for the next Track "Thought". It was the first time where i really thought on Stoner Doom or Stuff like i expected, but it is still not on it´s best.
I am sure that they have even more potential as we can hear on this Album.
"Deformed" definetly sounds like straight Rock or Alternative track, except of the fuzzy guitar sound. The drums are really cool here.
Grunge or Crossover from the early 90z comes in my mind.
Finally we got i a nice cup of "Tea" It seems like a final Statement where they show that the can do it if they want. A strange brew of various Vocals with
fat fuzzy sounds over nice breaks n fill in´s upon real good drums. The end gets a bit Doomy too. The riffs remembers me sometimes on Spiritual Beggars,
but it´s a very different own sound Pinkemical Sunset has. Very nice Track!
It it my favorite Track on this Album, because here is all i expected from a Stoner track.

..ooze the force on!!!

OOZE
ITALY
SLUDGE METAL

Ooze started its path of destruction in late 2011 when friends Antonio Strain, Sirio Palese and Andrea L'Abbate congregated in a dirty, smoke filled, filthy practice space in the middle of Trieste, Italy, to give birth to the bastard child of their corrupted, hazy minds. After few months of intensive sessions of mental and musical distortion, they started recording their first self-released, self-loathing driven demo CD titled "Sister tank", an infamous collection of intricate, pummeling, rotting riffs topped by thunderous drum work and tortured vocals that took them under the spotlights of the local DIY scene.
Israeli label Total Rust can't resist the band infectious sound and put Ooze under its wing and send them to a proper studio for the first time to record their upcoming LP. Due to early 2014, the self-titled "Ooze", collects Ooze most punishing, sludgy and perverted material to date. Their music crawls from the bowels of the most rapidly decaying city in Italy and hits you in the face like the vile stench of stagnant bong water. Get ready to get smashed by a slimy wave of feedbacks, possibly with a fat joint in your hand.

...Manthra Dei...back again!!!

Manthra Dei
Italy
Stoner/Psych
Acid Cosmonaut Records

Manthra Dei is an Italian stoner/psych/space rock four-piece that brings us some serious intergalactic soul/blues jams and let us fly in their colourful world...

The band's self-titled debut starts with the mighty long and trippy song named "Stone Face" and it makes you sure to know that the following song's are not more worst than this one, because also "Urjammer "(The faster 70ies song) ,"Xolotl" (great licks and solo structures) follows with the same power and it brings attention to the point. If you like bands with a lot of vocals and a nice jam atmosphere like Causa Sui, Earthless,The Machine or others, you definitely will like Manthra Dei because they have big cojones in they music and you can hear that.

With "Blue Phantom" the listener get the option for a free walk into a church and can listen to a spooky interlude followed by the last power and genius song "Legendary Lamb"this song gives again all the power of the band before the smooth acoustic song of "Stone Face" brings the record to a cozy end. Thank's for this great album...see ya soon on the road!!!

...Opium Drone shots...

CULTO
ITALY
DOOM/DRONE

You like stoner rock but always wondered why these guys don't keep it slower?
You discovered some ass-kicking doom stuff but still thought why so hectical?
And you still believe in the brown tone?
Well then you should check out Culto, a Drone Duo from Italy.
The self-titled debut album got 2 earth-spin-stopping noise colosses of 15 min each, which soak you into endless Cave-Swamps. Massive soundwalls, depressive mood, tones lower than Hip-Hop-pants and an almost apocalyptic atmosphere infiltrated by some whispered vocals what fits pretty well.
Imagine doom Kings „Conan“ playing without drums on a neverendless Opium Trip.
These guys arranged it not to vary that much. You find heavier parts with great guitar-riffing and the bit quiter ones with mentioned ritualistic whispering on it. That leads to a certain bouncing structure.
But keep in mind we're talking about ambient drone. Well...convince yourself...
If you like it more slow and atmospheric but still heavy, Culto seems to be a good choice.
Let's see what comes next.

BLOOD RED WATER
ITALY
DOOM/SLUDGE

BRW comes deep, fat and without mercy, they riff their setlist without regard to losses and build with their own songs a dark world in your living room. Tracks like"A ride in the Funhouse", "Thundersnow in Venice" or "A bad Trip in a Toxic mind" shows how well"All the Ills of Mankind" works..."

"...proud to present the new album of the mighty and industrious black rainbows from Italy, it's called "Holy Moon" and has a lot of  new influences and lots of surprises
to provide. This album contains a perfect concept and from the first song to the last all fits perfectly for me... It's more stoner rock and psych rock than the last releases and comes with a occult touch,
that what I personally feel very sympathetic.

All tracks on this disc are very very capable but my most favourite song's are:
"The Hunter, Black to Comm, Holy Moon and Monster of the Highway"
I'm looking forward to see this guys again on stage with the new material, a must have for every stoner dude or stoner duderina."
