...Tape Session again...

THE SWILL
METAL/HARD ROCK
USA

In the fall of 2012, Lansing Michigan metal rockers The Swill was formed from current and past members of Wastelander, Harbinger, Borrowed Time, Ghost Tower, Trouble, Solace and Bert. Recording sessions began in winter of 2013 resulting in the Thirst For Misery EP. Engineered, recorded and produced by Kevin Kitchel and Matt Preston.

 GET SWILLED HERE
"The tape recorder is moving and the of my cabinets are wobbling. The Swill is rocking my living room and i'm sure my neighbors also have some fun with this. The short tape has a lot in it and brings me in a old known mood of old dirty metal, beer and motorcycles. The super group has a lot of experience and this you can hear on this album. At all it makes fun but it's not really my kind of music but i'm sure there are enough lovers of this music out there. Check them and like it on their social network sites. "

...muuuhhh...

SHIT THE COW
STONER ROCK/ALTERNATIVE
SWEDEN

Holy Shit!

The band is raised on metal, punk rock and all kinds of distortion but the main inspiration comes from the rusty old truck in Steven Spielberg´s 1971 duel.

The second EP by Swedish scrapyard rockers Shit the Cow called „Salt of the earth“ has just be released. Since last year´s „volume/cow“ the band has recruited two new members: Erik Rosenberg and Robin Lindqvist.

Shit the cow is based in Stockholm but „Salt of the earth“ is recordet in Gula Viljan studio in the small village of Rissna far in the northern woods of Sweden. The recording took place over one intense weekend in the middle of July, interrupted only by a thunder storm and ridiculous amounts of grilled beef.

The first track rolls away like it should be... awesome riffs with a fucked up, but clear voice and nice bass Vibrations let the Stonerhearts beat higher. The Drums pushes the Song to the right way and really inspired me already from the first second.

A pretty cool opener for this EP, and for sure a candy for every Stonerhead.
There is no sample Stuff or something, they let the gasoline directly flow as hard as they can.
And yes they can!
„The Decline of Wester Civilization“ is my favorite track on this record.
The Crew sounds more like american rock, then we, or I'm used to Swedish Stuff.

If you are searching for similar Bands like all the Masterblasters we already know from this Country, this will not be what you expect from Shit the Cow, it is a completly different style.
The second Track is the same scheme but has already this punky touch.
Number three sounds slow deep and hard, with nice riffs and strange melodies, dirty Vocals fuck up the Track the right way.

The last Track is completly different and should show that punk is not dead i think.
It is a brew of the sound they still have with more punk or ska influences.
All Tracks have this punk touch, but this one seems to be an omage on punk.
The whole EP sounds garage rock like, not even my taste, but on the other hand like good old punk core stuff mixed up with a fist full of Stoner Stuff.

The EP is really short and hard to describe and / or evaluate for me. I really like the first Track, if every track would burn like this, i would love this baby and the score would be much higher, but there is too much punk in the other Songs for me.

But for sure it is every time a question of taste, so check em out!

...mangy and spooky good music...

DOCTOR CYCLOPS
STONER ROCK/HARD ROCK
ITALY

Doctor Cyclops is a seventies-style power trio playing heavy rock music inspired by a vintage sound, eldest son of glorious Balck Sabbath and of other more underground heroes from the 70ies and early 80ies such as Truth and janey, Sir Lord Baltimore, Captain Beyond, Witchfinder General. Even later and more modern references are warm-vintage style ones: Witchcraft, Firebird, Cathedral, Spiritual Beggars just to say some.

The project was born in 2007 in Oltrepo in a small village called Bosmenso, in the middle of the Appennino mountains. A place where winters are long and quite often really cold. Former members are Christian Draghi (guitar and vocals) and Francesco Filippini (bass), childhood friends who try to push by with their passionated love for music and good riffs.

Doctor Cyclops’ music is an obscure kind of heavy old style rock, its groove made by a miscellanous heap mix of influences, which go from the progressive to the doom stuff played with a raw and dusty wish.

"Here‘s a new record of the weird and funny stoner band "Doctor Cyclops!Awesome and varied riffs as well as a dark occult atmosphere will await you! The strange album artwork fits to the music like a fist in a face and also the booklet has some really cool pictures in it - I wonder if there’s also a story behind this mind blowing art. The songs are very colourful and invite you to a grooveful and rythmic mood. The jam character of some songs are really cool, including all the great solos and licks. They again proof a solid and heavy world of good italian heavy/psych rock straight through your living room. Listening to them will definitely be worth your time!"

...USELESS TO SAY YOU GOTTA WORK UNTIL YOU DIE...

Perro Malo
Italy
Hard Rock/Stoner Rock
Go Down Records

High n Hell again oh Stonerheads!

“USELESS” is Perro Malo second release with this EP the band joins the “Go Down” family. Perro Malo was born in 2007 from the ashes of “Sartana” and “Doctor Doom” with the idea of playing a new kind of stoner rock. His garage/punk and dark aptitude mixed with a certain nostalgia for some items of rock and hardcore 80's, takes the band out of the gigantic atmospheres of the desert rock to come to more linear and fast compositions, fit for his aptitudes. Perro Malo reaches bot, a melancholic and a ironic punk sound with some stoner ambition leading to the bands first full- length “New tricks for old dogs” for the british label CoPro Records. I am really happy to hold this EP in my hand for a review. Those Guys could get legendary! It starts smooth n groovy with "Somethin Wrong" and after the first 20 seconds, they get it on! Great vocals over awesome sounding riffs and a great drumer which rounds up the crew and brew. At first the voice rememberd me on Hermano and the other stuff from Mr. Garcia, but the sound is clearly different!

Garage or Post Rock with a little bit punk and some kind of stoner stuff is the magic mixture.. The whole Album has a huge "Hit" or earworm factor and turns on, tunes in and drops out. "Useless" is a wonderfull track, and for sure the right one for the album title. The part "useless to say you gotta work until you die" shows up their opinion! There are five cachy tracks from about 3 to 5 minutes, also well preperated to play it LOUD! A good arranged tribute to Lou Reed (the Velvet Underground) is up there too, called "Vicious". (Tribute because there is a difference for me between a straight cover or a tribute, and this one is an awesome omage to the lord of the brown sugar drown sound.) "Somethin Deosn´t Work" starts with a more clean reefer tone and gets a little bit weird at the end. And thats good! Some spaced up wah guitars and chaos breaking through. The vocals are"out of control" till the whole thing gets back in time, and chills you back after you have pushed the repeat button. The album is short but for me a really good entry to the doors of perception! It´s like Iggy Pop going stoner rock or something. If they polish up the cover and the packaging they would get even more respect for this gift. On the other hand, the cover reminds me on a 7" Vinyl with only a sheet of paper in a plastic cover and the cd in there. From this sight it is awesome but not good to handle. However, it is just the promo disc which I am holding in my hands, and in the end, only or mostly the sound counts, and this is really well done here. The mixing and mastering could be better. Every Stonerhead who love straight Hard / Post / Garage Rock with a Iggy Garcia note and a piece ot desert rock from the early years will enjoy it!

Pink is the new Black...

Pinkemical Sunset
Italy
 Hard Rock/Prog Rock

Ok, lets get it on... at first it sounds very groovy and funky on "My Woman" with a huge bass sound and after all that,
BOOM! the vocalist gives a asskick with his voice and starts with the crew the whole thing on.
The vocals are very massive and sounds a little bit like Ragga Reggae or Tribe Metal sometimes.
Mostly very fat bad ass angry deep voluminous stuff and on the other hand there are sometimes
cleaner parts with some effects on a few parts.
The whole album is very fuzzy, but for sure not for every Stonerhead i think.
What the track length belongs is all in the lower range with about 3 to 5 minutes.
A Phaser beams Us into "Paranoia", the second track. Some good arranged drum parts gives this track a personal note.
But like all tracks straight, slow, deep, hard and short.
In "Change" they really change the sound, now it gets a little bit more melodic, and some good breaks rounds up the track.
Guitar solos are not really much there... in "Absynth" you can hear one, and even that is more in the background.
The sound is pretty direct and straight. Sometimes the Voice remembers me on Nu-Metal / Alternative stuff or something.
But sounds still like underground Stuff and did not get "commercial" or something.
"Orgasm" starts with a smooth slow clean reefer tone. Some ambient sounds came through too the first time, and the bass sounds awesome here.
the vocals sounds very dirty, like a heroin shot through the microphone.
Time for the next Track "Thought". It was the first time where i really thought on Stoner Doom or Stuff like i expected, but it is still not on it´s best.
I am sure that they have even more potential as we can hear on this Album.
"Deformed" definetly sounds like straight Rock or Alternative track, except of the fuzzy guitar sound. The drums are really cool here.
Grunge or Crossover from the early 90z comes in my mind.
Finally we got i a nice cup of "Tea" It seems like a final Statement where they show that the can do it if they want. A strange brew of various Vocals with
fat fuzzy sounds over nice breaks n fill in´s upon real good drums. The end gets a bit Doomy too. The riffs remembers me sometimes on Spiritual Beggars,
but it´s a very different own sound Pinkemical Sunset has. Very nice Track!
It it my favorite Track on this Album, because here is all i expected from a Stoner track.

...led chinga...

LA CHINGA
HARD ROCK/STONER ROCK
CANADA

It was in the year of the no lord 2012. In the dark wilderness of Vancouver, BC, where lost youths teemed in search of the true power of ROCK, three men—chosen by occult forces too sinister to name—rose up in answer to that dire and baleful call.

With their electric black magic unleashed and in full flight, they bonded with the children of the forest over Cro-Magnon riffage, pounding drums, banshee wails, bell bottoms, boogie vans and the sweet miracle of tequila. Through sheer stoopidity, brutality, violence and volume they honed their primordial craft into a sonic axe of stone, opening skulls with deadly precision for as far as the pterodactyl flew.

They would meet regularly, when the moon was full, filling their bellies with intoxicating wild berries, their faces wet with lizard blood as they summoned an unholy frenzy of righteous and orgiastic riffage, bashing out pagan odes to some long forgotten bronze age GOD.

Through their music they traveled back in time—to year UR, where they became wild and their manes grew shaggier.

And thru this transmogrification their vision became clear, the seas of bullshit parted before them and they were free to shuffle off the chains of modern society and raise a stubby and musk-tinged middle finger to the craven new world.

Their war cry became their name, their name... La Chinga! Their mission: to vanquish all foes.
Three men. They howl, growl, prowl and stomp upon the terra in a glorious march to free man from his own mortal enemy—HIMSELF!!! La Chinga!! La Chinga!!! La Chinga...!!!!

"LA CHINGA is Canada's answer of Graveyard and other band's who know how to play good rock music. Like in the past year's this band makes a incredible dirty and full of raw riffs  and stomping hard rock parts. The sound reminds me sometimes hard on Led Zeppelin, the riffs and the songwriting is very similar. Carl does a good job on the vocals and fits perfectly in the whole band line-up. In this first album they defiantly show us that they are able to rock your socks of, so go on bandcamp, listen to their song's and buy this peace of gold...it's good for you!!!"

...big thanks to the whole band LA CHINGA for the nice shirt and the great music!!!

...liquid songs...

LIQUID SILK
Stoner/Psych/Heavy Rock
Germany/Berlin

Liquid Silk, the 70s heavy rock fraction from Berlin deliver real groove rock  peppered with a lot of stoner, blues and psychedelic.
The whole thing is served with a sound that originates from the 70s heavy rock and reached the optimum influenced by the stoner rock band Kyuss.
Liquid Silk transport you to a time when the streets were still dusty, a real desert sound.
Some songs reminds you the "good ol 'rock music" e.g. The Doors,Free & The Who.
Other strong influences are Led Zeppelin, Clutch, Graveyard and Black Sabbath.
To put it simply: Liquid Silk make 70s-retro-stoner-blues-psychedelic rock with desert groove.

It started when they had blow up her home planet at a giant millennium party in honor of Lord Zardoz, accidentally, but they managed to escape in a "borrowed" Space Van. The four galactic Space Cowboys had no other choice than surfing restless and supernova like in a huge sound wave through the universe, letting everything deaf behind.

Recently, they are stranded on Earth and are awake from their kryptonian space slumber, ready to shake the planet with their Rock "from the Dark Side of Uranus" ...Like a cosmic supernova Sonic Wave...

"This 4 dude's straight from Berlin do Stoner Rock like House of Broken Promise/Kyuss/Unida/Queens of the Stone Age but not yet definitely matured. "Steal my Thunder" contains catastrophic disagreement...if this is intentional? i don't know?
"Red Rain" comes with a fat beginning... unfortunately, the voice is killing the magic.
Also "Natalie" is coming with a dark and groovy start, the song works but subtleties missing.
"All the Way" the same at this song...nice riffing but no pressure from the vocal's...
There is still a lot of work to do but everyone starts with a low Quality Demo, maybe the debut album will be better and mature."

GREY CZAR
STONER ROCK

AUSTRIA

Grey Czar is a four member tinnitus generating monstrosity that derives its doubtful origin from the shadows of the howling cliffs of the austrian alps. What once started as a reason to retain one's youth by repeating one's follies quickly became an unstoppable machine that slaughters every aspect of modern music.

This dudes have shown often that they have big cojones and a hughe fist full of fat sound and great live performance. We booked them two times for a support slot, at first for FJODOR in Juni 2012 and again with KADAVAR in October 2012. Two times a  multiple orgasmic show with great live power.  Their sound is a mix between classical hard rock and a piece of  a nice stoner and fuzz sounds based on heavy blues riffing. MOTHERBRAIN
STONER ROCK
GERMANY

I's a long story about MOTHERBRAIN...after a lot bandmember change's they are a mixed band with  a small part of Austria and and a bigger one from Berlin. This four dude's know how to rock and prove that on their hot 10 track album named "COSMIC FUCK"...song's like "Suck me in, Penetration Poetry or Beta" rock's totally and remind's sometimes on Queens of the Stone Age or a old Monster Magnet album.
MOTHERBRAIN have potential and also the sound quality on the album is good but the album cover...hmmmm i don't know...is just my personal opinion but
with a more serious concept the whole would be more interesting for me.
But it's ok and i really enjoy this album...so kick back and stretch your sack because here is MOTHERBRAIN!!!

In the midst of the economic crisis in Greece, Cube are releasing what seems like a 90’s heavy rock revival. Focused on groove and straight-up heavy rock, the band delves into prog-rock experimentation but never loses the grungy aesthetic that cuts through the entire album.

The quartet have released a few tracks over the years on various compilations such as the ‘In the Junkyard’ series -featuring fellow greek acts the Dive, Planet of Zeus, the Bliss, Nightstalker among others- (Spinalonga Records, Greece) and the ‘Rock ‘n Roll Blvd vol.1’ -featuring bands like Honcho, Monkey 3, Kayser and more- (Buzzville Records, Belgium).
