Universe217 is one of the most vibrant heavy acts in Greece nowadays, with lots of gigs across the country and steadily frequent record releases. 

The down-tempo music style marks the spot where doom metal meets influences derived from more experimental or melodic forms of the rock sound spectrum, sometimes leading even to sonic outbursts which ignore the rules about perfect musicianship. 

If you combine this characteristic with the dynamic voice of singer Tanya (she is one of the best female rock singers in Greece, and in this album she sounds more mature and flexible than ever before), you get a result where the band’s sound is just the vehicle by which the listener experiences an atmosphere where he is “forced” to face uncomfortable emotional states, like when things are getting out of hand, when all control is lost, and the expectation of an ecstatic delirium seems to be the only way out.

"Univers 217 tell us some thrilling,spooky and dramatic stories with their new album "Never". It is a mix made out of Funeral Doom and Doom Metal, as well they really got me under their spell – a heavier alternative to the band Blues Pills with woman vocals or similar like Alunah, Jex Toth, Witch Mountain. The mood of this album is very atmospheric and roomfull, the song structures are not really diversified but that's not really a problem because the album works great. Lend them an ear and maybe you choose the option to order your own LP Special Edition!!"

Tuber grew up in a sunny place, south of Greece, in an island called Crete. They were hiding from the sun, jamming in dark studios and playing their music in rock caves. As they moved north, sounds became lighter, since they started miss hot ground. Balance came as a result of smash, dark embraced light and improvisation turned into an effortless and instinctive process. Tuber moved their interest into new forms, founding themselves experimenting with compositions that combine mixed styles and sounds from different ground. Focus is now on rock aesthetic flirting with psychedelic atmosphere and a touch of romantic mood. At this time Tuber live in Serres, forming their feelings and thoughts into music and words, still learning how to leave with reality and reinventing it with love.

The band was formed by Father W. in 2004, under the name of “the Drunk Earth”, a combination of Crust / Punk / Sludge metal. As “the Drunk Earth” a tape Ep, called “Returnable Bottle” was released through Fistbang Records, limited to 300 hand numbered copies. After several lives and due to members’ personal reasons, the band’s action stopped. Thus, in 2009, “Drunk Motherfuckers” were created by Father W. again from the ashes of “the Drunk Earth”, with completely different Line Up and style of music – a combination of Stoner and Sludge. 

An acoustic Ep called “Drunk and Wasted” was recorded and self released in 2009, limited in 666 hand numbered copies, as also a song called “We ain’t give a shit about Sobers” was recorded and included later, in 2010, in Spinalonga’s Records double compilation. With a new line up again, consisted of Father W. (Vocals), Pedro G.E. (Drums), Soulis (Bass), Andrew (Rhythm and Lead Guitars) and Wee (Rhythm Guitars and Lead Guitars), the debut album “…and alcohol for All” was recorded. It is planned to be released by Casket Records in February of 2013.

"A nice Southern/Heavy Rock straight from Greece, like their countryman "Planet of Zeus,1000 mods, Nightstalker" they create a sound who let groove your brains. I really enjoy their funny video to their song "3D (Drunk-Day-Drama)".
Their debut album on my home homespeakers did already sound's nice and tehy do a good job, groovy part's, good song structure's and a lot of alternatio. Song's like "Ain't give a shit about sobbers, This Earth was Drunk" will let you feel that you're alive. Check out this drunken monkeys and get your as kicked!"

Last Summer they recorded their first full length album at In The Core Media Studio in Athens.

The album was mixed and mastered by George Leodis (1000mods,The Dive) and is finally available

for streaming and downloading through Bandcamp.The CD format is available too,

in a custom printed handmade package in 500 numbered copies (a DIY self-release).

The band is now due to establish its presence in the Greek heavy music scene with this release and

a new lead singer and is ready for some serious gigging.We try to combine Heavy Rock sound with

a wide range of influences(psych,stoner,grunge,metal,postrock,noise rock) and we are already working

on new,and probably quite different,songs.

"This greek dude's know how to rock and mix heavy rock with some psychedelich parts...all is coming straight and pleasant to hear. The vocals on "Feed your Hell" reminds me on James Hetfield, "Secret of the Fox" comes with a lot of hall and smooth and slow riff work... a great song,  
A oriental and  also melancholic atmosphere spread during the playing time. To the End it's more psychedelic and like in a mediation mood. At all a real good piece of plastic for your CD-drive...so buy it and don't be a cock!!!"

Both being inspired by bands like Memento Mori, Solitude Aeturnus and Candlemass and shortly after Angelos Ioannidis (vocals) and Kostas Farmakis (drums) joined them, the band began rehearsing and composing material.

"A wonderful produced record of the greek dude's from Sorrows Path" almost inappropriate for the blog because it's more pure metal(vocals, solo's, riffing)  than doom but the rare doom,sludge parts (drums,guitar) are really nice, the choral singing and this permanent halls is definitely not for me...but thumbs up!

Spine Chilling Breeze were formed in the spring of 2011 by Achilles (guitar) and Stavros (bass) as a cover band. With the entrance of Gregory (drums) and Bill (vocals) the band was ready to work on its own music.

In order to introduce themselves in public, in the autumn of 2011 recorded and in early 2012 released "promo 2012" with 2 tracks. Having received encouraging reviews from the media, in the spring of 2012 they began recordings for their first full length release, this demo "milky way".

The recording was made by Spine Chilling Breeze except vocals, which were recorded by Chrysafis Tantanozis. The mastering sessions took place at Grindhouse Studios in Athens.

INTERVIEW

Today is Planet of Zeus a well known band in greece and more but it was not always that way. Tell us a little bit about the band-history.

Well, it all started back in 1999, when Babis and Yog decided to form a rock band, as they couldn’t express themselves through the bands they’ve been into
‘till then. The initial concept behind the music style they wanted to follow was all about rock n roll, with a 70’s flavour in it. In 2000 I (Jay) joined the band and we recorded our first 3-track demo “Loop 430” in 2004, just to try out our ‘sound’. 2008 was the year that our first full-length album “Eleven the Hard Way” was released by Casket music/Copro Records (UK); an album which caught the attention of foreign and local press.
The solid and heavy sound of the album led us to an extra member, Syke, behind the drums and Yog became the second guitar player.
Extensive rehearsals, gigs and song-writing delivered our second album
“Macho Libre” in May 2011 by B-Otherside records(GR) and “Macho Libre” tour followed, visiting many cities in Greece and ended up with our show in Stoned from the Underground festival 2011 in Erfurt, Germany, sharing the stage with bands like Monster Magnet and Church of Misery.
These days we are preparing for our first European tour in Germany, Austria, France and Netherlands.

What makes a band for you unique? What is most important to you?
Supposing that every possible riff or melody has already been composed or performed, the unique-ness of a band lies upon its sincerity, its honesty, and the quality of its work.

For how long do you make music? Have there been other bands before Planet of Zeus?
Yog and Syke are professional musicians, so the list of bands they’ve played with is very long. Babis and I had worked together in another band before Planet of Zeus.

 The general situation of greece as a country doesn't make it very easy for his citizens at the moment. What are your thoughts about your government?

Living in Greece in terms of economy and life quality is not as good as it used to be some years ago. But it’s not as tragic as it’s being presented by the foreign press. As far as the government is concerned, its members should start giving more attention for citizens’ true needs and expectations. They have totally forgotten the fact that their power actually stems from the citizens’ vote. So, anyone politician that cannot cope with that responsibility, he/she would be better to stay at home.

What is your idea or solution for the global financial crisis?
I guess that history just repeats itself. There are several examples of financial crisis in the past. The solution lies upon people’s optimism about the future.

Last year you rocked the shit our of the "Stoned from the Underground" in Erfurt (GER)and the clubs in greece are alway crowded when there is a Zeus-gig - what are your goals?
Our goal is to continue making music, releasing albums and touring. Simple as that.

Two headbang-provokin' records are already released, will a third follow soon? If yes, do you have some insider-informations you'd like to share with all the stonerheads?
The process of composing new songs for the third album is already on. 3 tracks are almost done and there are still many ideas waiting to be “shaped”. When the time is right, we will release it. I guess in spring 2013, it will come to surface. There is not a clear picture yet about the sound, but you should expect groovy heavy rock tunes for sure.

If you would have the choice, which female celebrity would you like to spend a evening/night with you?

That’s definitely a hard question to answer. The list is endless. Liv Tyler always on top, though! 

Which genre/band/artist dou you think should be prohibited?
Everyone is free to listen and produce any music, but a bag full of shit thrown at Skrillex ‘s face is not a bad idea

Who are your favourite artists and role models?

Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Jimmi Hendrix just to name a few!
