...fresh meat for the masses...

RADIO HAZE
GERMANY
HEAVY ROCK/PSYCH ROCK

RADIO HAZE was found to be only a studio-project in the beginning, but since their self-produced EP „Vitamin R“ (Fall 2007) the guys are on their way to place a spark in every rock `n rollers heart out there. With two brothers as their rhythm section and a creative mind at the front, the rock power-trio is absolutely fit to let those sparks become a hellfire that burns down every stage Michael Hofmann (Drums/Vocs), Robert Hofmann (Bass/Vocs) and Philipp Janoske (Guitar/Vocs) from Abensberg in Bavaria enter - no matter if they play loud or even unplugged.
With legends like Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin in their heads and a mixture of Wolfmother and Foo Fighters in their ears, the guys give Rock of the 60s and 70s a dropkick into presence!
Following their first EP, they release two longplayers called „Mycelium“ and „The Growth“ - also by themselves - to cope with their huge creative output. The fact that they are working single-handedly gives them the freedom to develop their own style and to differ from other bands in the genre.
To confirm their variety they even trip into acoustic-psychedelic regions and record the “Psychoustic-Sessions” EP, which is solely available as an affectionately-designed 10” vinyl package.
In the meantime RADIO HAZE cause quite a stir in the whole of Bavaria and under all age audiences while playing support-shows for Rock-legends like Uriah Heep and Ten Years After or „newcomers“ like Graveyard and The Brew (UK). These experiences give the creative impuls and also the starting signal for the work on their new album „Momentum“, which is recorded live and once again produced at home - of course DIY.
The result is quite a blast, convincing even Berklee-academic Will Robertson as a course-related project within bassist Hubi’s studies. On 05/02/2014 everybody can take a trip back to a time when the boys of dogtown turned the skateboard scene inside out and guitar-riffs ruled the world, but without disregarding the accomplishments in rock-music during the last decades. A bow before the history of ROCK.

"What's to say about this record? These guys are definitely good songwriters. For a DIY album it sounds amazing and it could also be a thing of interest beyond the stoner rock scene. Song's like "Blame the Moonlight" or "Let Me Taste Your Light" are very Radio friendly material. But otherwise tracks like "Ignition", "Wasteland" and "The Night She Shot Me Down" are great played song's in different rhythms and a lot of good feeling parts. The voice reminds me sometimes on the singer of "Placebo" or the dude of the "Arctic Monkeys" who is not my favorite type of vocals but it fits perfectly to the whole band and gives the music the last kick. At the whole end "Radio Haze" have done a real good job. Thumb up for this work!

...in the garden of ivyl!!!

IVY GARDEN OF THE DESERT
DOOM/STONER/PSYCH
ITALY

Straight from Trevisio, Italy the power constilation of Andrea, Paolo and Diego release their third full lenght concept album named "I Ate Of The Plant And It Was Good" and it is directly conected to their forerunners "Docile" (2011) and "Love Is Blood" (2012).
"They thought they were playing stoner, but people actually say they don't..." is their description quote on the genre line on facebook. That's right because it's not only simple Stoner Rock but high quality varied rock music with a interesting mix out of progressive rock parts, slower doom parts and driven portion hard rock and in the end there are also some stoner rock influences.

I saw them at the Freak Valley Festival and i was really impressed by this nice guys from Italy. At the drive home from the festival i had the possibility to listen to their album accurate and had a lot of fun with this.
Song's like "Deeper Than Deep", "Ohcysprotom" and "Hang Glider" show the whole spectrum of their skills. Exactly this is what makes the band unique. They create their own sound and so they distinguish to all the other bands in this genre. I'm really happy about this discovery on the main stage at freak valley. The live show had a huge pressure and the progressive parts reminded me stromg on the band "TOOL", with a good feeling on stage and a great performance which they played and a  great set.  So they could impressed a lot of the people i think.
You also have the honor to get your own copy of the Ivy Row. Check out their available records and merchandise on their sites.

...hyne trough the elements...

HYNE
STONER ROCK/GRUNGE
GERMANY

"Hyne" from Hamburg have reloaded their stoner - rock gravity gun to shoot out their new release "ELEMENTS" This record is full of great arranged tracks, well mixed sound quality and a thoughtful concept. Behind the scenes this five likeable German dude's know that from nothing comes nothing so they do it differently. They rehearse a lot, play every show, promote their things and work on their own being to transform and get better. After i heard this album i was absolutely convinced that their development phase is over now. "Hyne" are complete and powerful like they never were before.

The opener "The Engine" proves that directly at the beginning.
The vocals are heavy and powerful and fit perfect to the free vocal slots of the rhythm guitar. Also the solo is well placed and not over pumped.
With a winning first riff the second song "Beneath the Radar" starts and spreads loads of good feelings. Sometimes it reminds me on a mix of "Orange Goblin", "Cojones" and a cup of "Hainloose" which is only well meant from my side. The next awesome song is called "Elements" and comes with an old school 70ies riffing accompanied by cozy soft guitars and muddy driving drums. The refrain is well to hear so this song is definitely one of my favorites on this piece of shiny plastic.

With "Western Circus" a short instrumental break relaxes the whole and brings some differences with it.
"Dead Man" at first rolls slowly and builds up a smooth psychedelic mood with some wah wah and phaser on the guitar. Also a good song which fits perfect into this giant playlist of "Hyne". Also outstanding is the track "Pieces of the Universe" which reminds me a bit at "Truckfighters" with a vocal style of Glen Danzig(at least at the beginning), what a mix! With "Elbsand" i have reached the end of this record and i have to say that the album has positively surprised me.
For me the band has evolved like a strong pokemon. Now they are finished and have found their way together as a band.
After a hard way they have deserved it to have a place in this scene.
Thumb up!!

...Beware of the Goblin...

 CHRON GOBLIN
STONER ROCK/HEAVY ROCK
CANADA

From the smoke-filled rooms of university to beer-stained stages across western Canada and abroad, Chron Goblin have been spreading the stoke wherever they go. Filling bars and venues alike since their 2009 inception, the party-hardened four-piece have amassed a loyal fan base with their addictive on-stage energy as well as two intoxicating rock concoctions: a self-titled EP in 2010 and 2011’s acclaimed full-length One Million From The Top.

Since then, the band has proved their well-earned notoriety with by landing gigs with some of the biggest names in heavy music, including Vista Chino (ex-Kyuss), Orange Goblin, Weedeater, Black Pussy, 3 Inches of Blood, Bison B.C., and The Devin Townsend Project. In the spring of 2013, their talents won them the coveted contest-spot at Desertfest London, making them the first Canadians to grace the stage of the sought-after stoner-rock gold Camden festival.

This demand stems in no small part from Chron Goblin’s artful, yet accessible blend of influences ranging from riff-rock to rockabilly, Sabbath to Stray Cats. With no style-boundaries to bind them, the group avoids self-imposed stagnancy and embrace evolution.

"Late after other great reviews but also my right to say that this band is awesome, I know this for weeks but I can't find time to write it down here. Now my time has come to do this. This Canadian formation of a heavy Stoner rock band with the real rock attitude has created their own mix of excellentand high quality music. I don't want to repeat the other reviewers so I will keep it short. Chron Goblins debut album kicks ass and have create a place in our music lovers' hearts. Songs like "Control, Live for the Living, Lonely Prey or Give No More" show us the musicians from their best side. A new great band is born, beware."

...Fruity Interview...

Interview with Hubert(Vocals, different other instruments)

How did you get the name „GO BANANAS“ and which goals do you personally pursue concerning the band?
Go Bananas means to get crazy, to lose your mind just like you have been bitten by a wild monkey. When we were making up our minds to find a good and fitting band name, we asked ourselves one What does it mean to us to make music?
The result was very clear: Music means to relax and just to lay down without obeying to any social rules. To cut a long story short, just to do whatever pops up in your mind, get rid of all the unimportant things in life and to listen to your inner inspiration!

How do most of your songs come to life?Do you have any precederues you keep to?
Mostly we get our songs out of jam sessions but also out of preconceived song structures, which have been developed by both of our guitarists, Woife and Aki. However, we do try to include influences of all our band members in order to get the right flow which satisfies the whole band.

What are your engines, your concepts, what do you stand for with your music?
For me, honest and handmade produced music always was one of the most important things. Music is part in every situation of my life, meaning that it does not only help me to deal with all the difficulties in it, but is also a welcoming guest which accamponies the good days in life. Therfore the most horrific thing to do would be living a life without music! Benefiting from the newest techniques and possibilities to produce music these days is kind of an engine enough to leave behind our own musical footprint.

How did the first tour go?
It was a long awaited and very funny life experience which definitely none of us wants to miss! We got to meet crazy and extremely hospitable people, all of them being unique and supporting the underground music. We have to say that we are very thankful for this great tour and want to express our gratitude once again to everybody who helped us getting through our tour, even though we did not have any contracts, label or managers.

What are the most important things to take with you whilst touring?
Name at least 3. First of all a whole lot of sound, a whole lot of light and a lot more of fun!

What was your first CD you have ever bought?
You definitely do not want to know that. At that time I was very young and therefore extremely dumb, also I had next to nothing. (My taste in music is not the same anymore, and I also grew older but that is all that has changed up to now) Name 3 of your favorite bands. For me, it is very difficult to do that, as there are so many great bands and my personal taste changes every now and then. There are bands which I do not listen to in years, and suddenly once again in continuous repetition. However, I would list the all time godfathers BLACK SABBATH on the first place, followed by Monkey3, Sleeping Karma and Space Collective. I know that I have named four bands, but in my opinion three are way too few. At last I want to mention that you should enjoy every band on Vinyl or if possible even live!
Do you have any rehearsal rituals?
Not really. Of course it is important to just get into a chilly mood, eat a few bites of whatever you like, forget about your jobs and problems and meet up with a bottle of beer or a glass of wine. Only when your mind is free, the music can start to unfold! However this is a long process which sometimes can even take up to 2 hours. This is probably the reason why our rehearsals last longer than usual.

What are the future plans of the band?
After having released our second album „Erutan“, which we have recorded all by ourselves, we want to hit the stage again and play as many concerts as possible. The plan is, to make people with our live music happy. If you are interested in any gigs, just write us! We are easy to handle and willing to join every party! Besides, we are looking forward every day to get into our chilly room, in order to write new songs and spend some nice psychedelic evenings in there.

Additional words for the world out there?
Take your time and enjoy the real things worth living in life! Be pleased by the nature and listen to handmade music, escape the stress of our society and support music which comes from the heart.

Big thank's to Hubert for this support and check them out on their facebook page here!

...mangy and spooky good music...

DOCTOR CYCLOPS
STONER ROCK/HARD ROCK
ITALY

Doctor Cyclops is a seventies-style power trio playing heavy rock music inspired by a vintage sound, eldest son of glorious Balck Sabbath and of other more underground heroes from the 70ies and early 80ies such as Truth and janey, Sir Lord Baltimore, Captain Beyond, Witchfinder General. Even later and more modern references are warm-vintage style ones: Witchcraft, Firebird, Cathedral, Spiritual Beggars just to say some.

The project was born in 2007 in Oltrepo in a small village called Bosmenso, in the middle of the Appennino mountains. A place where winters are long and quite often really cold. Former members are Christian Draghi (guitar and vocals) and Francesco Filippini (bass), childhood friends who try to push by with their passionated love for music and good riffs.

Doctor Cyclops’ music is an obscure kind of heavy old style rock, its groove made by a miscellanous heap mix of influences, which go from the progressive to the doom stuff played with a raw and dusty wish.

"Here‘s a new record of the weird and funny stoner band "Doctor Cyclops!Awesome and varied riffs as well as a dark occult atmosphere will await you! The strange album artwork fits to the music like a fist in a face and also the booklet has some really cool pictures in it - I wonder if there’s also a story behind this mind blowing art. The songs are very colourful and invite you to a grooveful and rythmic mood. The jam character of some songs are really cool, including all the great solos and licks. They again proof a solid and heavy world of good italian heavy/psych rock straight through your living room. Listening to them will definitely be worth your time!"

...Hometown Heroes...

GHOULS COME KNOCKING
AUSTRIA/SALZBURG
TRASH'N ROLL

GHOULS COME KNOCKIN´ started their band career in the winter of 2006 under the name GODFORSAKEN in their hometown of Salzburg, Austria. Then the quintet, consisting of two guitarists, a bassist, a drummer, and a singer, dedicated themselves to Swedish Death / Trash Metal and released two EPs, titled “Under Baphomets Sign“ and “Blood Night Fever.”
In 2008, drummer Sebastian Hübner found his way into the band, and still passionately torments the drum kit today. One year later, guitarist Stephan Hacek quit the band and the remaining musicians decided to continue as a quartet.
Over the course of time, the style of the band slowly changed more towards Heavy Metal / Rock ‘n’ Roll / Punk and the musicians decided to continue their career as GHOULS COME KNOCKIN´ in 2010. Two years later the EP “Death Rock Mayhem“ and numerous concerts followed.
Between 2009 and 2013, there were several changes in singers until bassist Janis Hacek decided to take responsibility for this part himself and the band continued as a trio.
Concerts with bands such as ZOMBIE INC, WARBRINGER, HAVOK, SKELETON WITCH, ANGELUS APATRIDA, PETER PAN SPEED ROCK, CALIBAN, OUR SURVIVAL DEPENDS ON US, among others, followed.
In 2013 the band released their current full length album “Dead Beat Glory,” which was recorded in the KK Studios in Salzburg. The album was completely self-produced. At the same time the first official music video of the song “Psychonaut” was shot, which was released at the same time as the album.
The style of the band is a smashing mix of Speedrock and Metal with catchy hooklines with a punky attitude, delivered in a suitably dirty manner.
The lyrics tell epic tales of rebellion, death, freedom, self-awareness and the occasional state of intoxication.

"It's not a shame to say that the ghouls play a kind of "motorhead oriented" music with a bit more fire and pressure. Also, the singer does not have that ugly wara in his face and they are as well able to play live and don't have to cancel their tour plans permanently. This guys from my hometown absolutely convinced meaning that also the debut album kicks ass like hell. It's a powerful engine with a double carburetor and a big tank full of whiskey...song's like "Dead Beat Glory", "Ghouls Nite Out", "Lucifer A.D" or the mighty song of the video "Psychonaut" make a good mood and motivate me to open a beer and switch the party mode on!
Tight and hard hitting drums, fast licks and shrill solos combined with a raw and angry voice : or in short term GHOULS COME KNOCKING! ...so watch out they are coming to get you!!!"

The 5th Element...

The Black Explosion
Sweden
Heavy Psych/Stoner Rock

Chris Winter took his rock and roll visions to create a spaced out, rock, fuzz and psyched out band called The Black Explosion. The musical style is rooted in rock & roll although it draws big influences from space-rock, soul, blues, noise and psych. After the great debut album Servitors Of The Outer here and now - the new album Elements of Doom.

Now i hold the second „holy grale“ in my hands and i am really happy about it, because this record hits me like good acid!
Welcome to the freaked out world of The Black Explosion! A really awesome psychedelic bluesy stoner crew with a epic potential to rock. The vocals remembers on Led Zeppelin, Iggy Pop, Wolfmother or something, but sounds clearly different, great arranged screams, and some effects and samples makes it better as it already sounds. What the whole Sound belongs at first definitely Hawkwind and White Stripes comes in my mind but it is harder, deeper and slower (mostly). The right point so say that i find that it is really good recorded and mastered. Sounds real professional for the second Album. The Tracklengt goes from 02:15 up to 06:01 minutes, apart from the „Wee will fall“ with the hidden track.
The cover is really strange and awesome, what is a „must have“ for such a album.
On the title track „Elements of Doom“ the Oscillator brubbles a strange brew with doomy riffs and some other spaced up stuff which sounds more fuzzed up, downtempo and psychedelic as on the first album.
The whole band could get real legendary as Mr Winter still is in another scene.
For me they are as good as Graveyard, Mamont and other bands from sweden, but it is another kind of music and especially that rulez. It may hasn´t the same „Earworm“ but comes very close on that point.

Some „Asskick“ songs are up there, like „Freekin Ride“ or „Blow it away“ which has a huge hit factor.

The Old School Fu Manchu, TAB, Nebula fraction will like „D-471“ pretty sure.
But that is only Side a if it was a LP. There are a lot of other good songs up there.
On „Mothership“ i thought Cheech and Chong himself cries out the intro and starts the ride.
The riffs sounds a little bit like the good old Sabbath here on some parts but still another strain.
A hidden Track and many good vibes are waiting at least as last track on this baby.
Members:
Chris Winter – Lead Vocals, Guitar
Joel Bergström – Guitar
Simon Haraldsson – Bass,
Andreas Lindquist – Drums

Spaced out guitars, samples, bass, aggressive drums (as we heard on the first album) and a „out of control“ voice remembers us that we all „Will Fall“.
I can highly recommend this record because they might get legendary and i have to say, that FOR ME they already are! So it's really worth listening! Not everyones sound of choice maybe, but i think the most Stonerheads will like it.
And That is my point in the end: Check it out LOUD! Turn on, Tune in, Drop out!

"...proud to present the new album of the mighty and industrious black rainbows from Italy, it's called "Holy Moon" and has a lot of  new influences and lots of surprises
to provide. This album contains a perfect concept and from the first song to the last all fits perfectly for me... It's more stoner rock and psych rock than the last releases and comes with a occult touch,
that what I personally feel very sympathetic.

All tracks on this disc are very very capable but my most favourite song's are:
"The Hunter, Black to Comm, Holy Moon and Monster of the Highway"
I'm looking forward to see this guys again on stage with the new material, a must have for every stoner dude or stoner duderina."

Stone Kings the 2nd...

STONEKINGS
 Stoner Rock
UK

Stone Kings is a rock band with a difference... Fusing an array of rock and metal influences, Stone Kings deliver a fresh take on heavy music the likes of which hasn’t been seen in some time. With artfully structured songs containing riffs that stir your blood and lyrics that take you on a journey, listening to this band is like getting high without the drugs! Having heard an advance copy of their soon to be released self-titled debut and caught a couple of live shows, this reviewer can honestly say that Stone Kings are very likely to be playing some of the major music festivals next year.

This is the band to keep your eye on folks, so watch this space...Influenced by the likes of Monster Magnet, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains & Down, Stone Kings rock the hardest!!!

...heavy shit baby!!!

Heavy Rock
USA/Indiana

They say that anything worth doing is worth doing right. If you want it done right then you have to do it yourself and that takes time. With that being said, The Heavy Co. has wrapped up production on their first full length record, Midwest Electric. It’s story is close to epic if you consider that we are talking about a record that is a result of 4 hazy years of tears, writing, woodshedding, playing live, recording and producing the whole damn production in-house to yield 37 or so smoke and incense filled minutes of psychedelic guitar rock haze that solidly stretches the limits of the genre that has been come to be affectionately (or not so affectionately, depending on who you talk to) known as “stoner rock”.
Let’s get a few things straight. This record was never meant to be perfect. The tempos swell and recede, the vocals aren’t necessarily in key all of the time, and you’re going to hear some things buzz, but I can assure you...it sounds exactly how it was supposed to. Originally Midwest Electric was intended to be recorded on an 8 track tape machine, but Murphy’s Law prevails and the damn thing broke right in time for tracking. THC went ahead and took advantage of their digital recording capabilities to the fullest, but underneath the layers of extra tracks is the sound of three guys getting down in a room and jamming like they only got one take at the thing. The other thing is while there is no doubt, like their other “stoner” peers, that a huge part of THC’s sound is a throwback to the classic rock of the late 60’s and early 70’s, it’s a modern rock sound. The idea that their music is “modern” sets THC apart from most “stoner rock” bands. It’s cool if a band relies on the amplifier theatrics of the 70’s (who doesn’t love a loud riff through a wall of amps), but as the guys say, “don’t stop now, there’s no time to cry”. Jimi Hendrix was looking for a “new kind of blues” and The Heavy Co. are giving it their best shop.

Midwest Electric isn’t a stereotypical “stoner rock” record. It could have just as easily have been called “Midwest Eclectic”. First off, there is a country twinge to the whole thing, especially in the subtle twangy drawl that creeps into the vocal delivery. Second, no two songs on the record really sound alike. Midwest Electric moves from a driving hard rock number like The Humboldt County Waltz to the lonesome guitar wail and lament of Neil Young to the spacey drone of Sailing Towards The Setting Sun and the bluesy fuzzed out doom of One Big Drag . The album’s seven songs are unique to themselves but never out of place with each other. THC has meticulously crafted a record that embodies the feelings of isolation, paranoia, and general drudgery of existing in between the rows of corn and how it contrasts with the hopes and dreams that come from the transcendental experiences of those bored “different” souls that reside there inevitably get around to having. That or THC just wanted to write some songs so they could groove out and play some guitar solos. Whatever works for you. Please tune in...

"Nice psychedelic and heavy rock sound from this awesome band, The Heavy Company comes with a bright and full sound spectrum and makes your ears happy, spacefull and smooth song's like "Neil Young,Sailing Towards The Setting Sun are also on "Midwest Electric"...it's very sculpting sound and so all kinds of music lovers comes to their costs...if you like southern rock and more fuzzy stuff you will like "One Big Drag, El Bango Grande(southern space song)...on the whole a very well album...check it out!!!"
