PurpleHaze Ensemble is a Polish band from Cracow. Their earlier incarnation was called simply PurpleHaze and played a relatively simple version of stoner rock. With the new name, new drummer, new synth player, they started experimenting with their sound a little bit – e.g. adding ambient electronica, making the song more interesting, engaging and longer.

"PurpleHaze Ensemble's debut album is not for everyone, it's different and maybe even crazy and weird but not bad at all. The best thing is to check it out by yourself, listen to a modern kind of stoner metal with a lot of funny other cool sounds in it. I'm not a big fan of electronic music but I think that it fits to the whole band and to their concept. If you ask me where I should place the tape? I would say somewhere between Nu Metal, Stoner Rock and Stoner Metal...but listen to it and ask your ears..."

Here it comes. The new Palm Desert record. At least since „rotten village sessions“ everybody should know what comes from these guys is more than just some average stuff...

Even their Debut album „Falls of the wastelands“ is a guarantee for gourmet stoner rock.

„Adayoff“, released at 18.09.2013 on BSFD records, continues where the 4 dudes had to stop in january.

I remember some really catchy tunes like „Shades in black“ or „Down the Odyssey“.

But back to the future.

First track „Leave me alone“ starts slowly, bluesy and groovy. They keep it low for the first minutes but catch you with that blues-beat focused riffing. And then, when you think yeah it's a pretty cool tune they kick your god damn ass with some fuckin' fuzz-overload sounds. Not even 6 min and they got you.

That's when „End of the certain“ starts. A relaxing, folky short track. Perfect to lead to the next riff-monster. Thing to notice: They even improved their sound into a more direct, heavier and better structured version of their earlier stuff. Also this god damn sticky bass sound! Love it...

„Among the stones“. Damn where's my beer? A huge bunch of stoner bands these days but that's, let me say it again, not average at all. It never stops rolling, cheers to Piotr Lacny (guitar) and Jan Rutka (bass). Well done.

Same style in „First Scream“. Are there any deserts in Poland? Hard to believe we're talking about a polish band in here. Don't get me wrong but it sounds like some long-haired California desert dudes á la Scott Reeder would celebrate one of those 90's desert partys with tons of good dope and beer.

„Dusty“ is more focused on some dreamy fuzz jams. It starts heavy, gets added by some delayed vocals, looses itself somewhere in a slower harmonic jam part, gets almost faded out and then find it's way back in a mid-tempo riff which continues over the last 3 min of the track. Good use of vocals at this point.

„Overload“. Great guitar sound. Basslines to sell your soul for. Fatter than Oprah Winfrey could ever get. A lot of Repitition. Nearly meditating, paralyzing.

Even better vocals! Harmonic as hell. Brilliant end for a brilliant record.

Don't wait a second longer and spend the hillarious 3 bucks on their bandcamp page for the digital record or 8$ for the CD.

Definitly worth.

A fuckin' great sighting in european Stoner Rock.

The band was started in 2011by the Dobry brothers, both taking guitar duties. At the end of the year joined the band Pan Falon, who also plays drums for Belzebong. 

The trio released their demo in 2012, still without bassist. At the end of the year finally joined the band as bassist Jose, spanish musician who also played before in bands like Looking For An Answer and Antigama. In April 2013 this formation (Piotr, Bartek, Falon and Jose) started recording material for their first album and performed live first time supporting americans Elder in Warsaw. 

Their album was released in July 2013 and now you can get it on bandcamp for some bucks, or make decison to get a shirt and a physical copy of the album...because it's good for you.

 "Finest Stoner Metal from Poland, from the first second of the album till the last tone it kicks ass and let groove your brain. Berenjena Pipe reminds me in a kind of style like GRANDLOOM
only here is a singer available and do a good job...but there more than simple stoner rock songs on this disc..." Don't trust your elephant" is a smooth and colourful song with a fist full of post-rock elements. "Kraken" comes with a fat and dirty sludge and the last song's are very varied and full of psychedelic parts and some cool ballads. At all a piece of green gold hahaha!!!"

A very interesting mix of different kinds of music, it's kind a sort of Stoner Metal or should i say Trash Stoner...Very fast,hard and crispy recorded. For a debut album it's quiet good and enjoy while listening to it and drive your car. A fast forward band like Black Cobra, Zoroaster, Black Tusk, but surely with they own ideas and a little bit more classical metal attitude.

Palm Desert is a four headed stoner rock band from Poland and the big influence of the Palm Desert era can not deny himself. The great sound and the good song's get right mood for a car ride or to bang your head at home alone. Their first full lenght album "Falls of the Wasteland" already was a piece of finest classic stoner rock but now the new release "Rotten Village Sessions" are totally a burner CD with more mud and dirty riffs, a little bit more serious and darker. From beginning till the end a fat party for my ears. of "Kuelmaggah Mysticism: The Prologue" comes very professional. The vocals reminds me on Tool or Priestess and are a little bit monotonous with the time.
Some songs are too short for me and I lack a climax. But overall a great album!!!"

We started to play in 2008r. At that time we were under big influence of New Orleans stoner/sludge scene, so our music used to sound more like Down, CoC, Superjoint Ritual, Crowbar. Music from this period of our excistence is represented by Demo Flesh and Bones, recorded and released in 2009. After that we moved more in sludge, doom metal genre, but we are not aware of putting some blues, progressive or core elements in our songs. Represetantive for our musical presence are two last releases : EP Skibidibi and our first LP - WOOD. Sounds more like Mastodon, Eyehategod, Crowbar, maybe even Neurosis (sometimes). Anyway, Vagitarians is not only a band, it is an institution closely connected with Ceremony Booking - concert agency which contains two members of band.

CB is responsible for Stoner Ceremony and Feel The Doom events. These periodical events are chance for the best polish underground bands, which plays stoner/sludge/doom music to show up in front of an interested-in community. Bands like Blindead, Belzebong, Major Kong, O.D.R.A, Merkabah, Elvis Deluxe are representative for polish underground scene. Furthermore Ceremony Booking was a promoter of polish gigs of bands like Weedeater, Church of Misery, Karma to Burn, The Flying Eyes and more...

In 2002 four long-time friends who had been involved in different
bands (mostly HC/post HC/rock stuff like Ahimsa, Coalition, Afraid of
That Day) started to jam together playing what they had a great
affection for their entire lives: ‘70s-influenced stoner rock.

In 2003 they recorded a demo which turned out to be pretty popular
among the slowly growing breed of their fans. Soon they became one of
the most active Warsaw bands, crossing all the genres and being
present at different types of shows from punk rock to rock’n’roll to
hardcore and rocking the nights out like crazy. Every once in a while
they hit the road to gig Poland, Lithuania, Germany, ending up in some
Czech clubs, making a nice soundtrack to bar fights there. Easy going
dudes took it easy. It took them a while to record their very first
full length, but when they did, it turned out to be really worth
waiting for. The record was called “Lazy” (2007) and well... it really
was. The title illustrated Elvis’ attitude towards the so-called
reality and their music.

The world rolled on, the boys played more gigs (sharing the stage
with, among others, Karma to Burn, Jucifer or Parkway Drive) and
finally there came the time to reveal what was going on in their
heads. On “Favourite State of Mind” the sound is full of space,
stylish and the non-obvious guitars are accompanied by multi-layered
vocals. Inspirations ranged from The Who, David Bowie, T. Rex to
Turbonegro and some more recent swampy stuff from the US. The band
employed unconventional recording techniques and sound experiments
that could give certain purists a nervous drool. Elvis Deluxe applies
a strong rock’n’roll punch to your jaw that will make you hear colours
and see the divine beauty of their music.

After the record was finished, the line-up changed slightly – Mechu
was replaced on guitar by Bert Trust. This old mate of Elvis’ used to
play in Warsaw stoner bands Castor Fiber and Oregano Chino, which
makes him a perfect fit for Elvis Deluxe in terms of fascination with
roots rock and dirty sound. The dudes have charisma and have the
skills and even though they’re taking it easy, they take it seriously.
The years of long going friendship and jamming together made them only
tighter and hungrier for good shows and the road adventures. They will
roll slow and if you stand on their way... well, you can be sure to
roll with them...

"Lazy" is a very colored album, acid punk meets psych and stoner....sometimes like Q.O.T.S.A or Fu Manchu. "Favourite State of Mind" have more psych and comes with big solos and really good songs...that's the album what i prefer, a band with a hopeful future."

Lord Stereo's music can be described in three words:

VINTAGE - like the postcards and photos from the late sixties and
early seventies, full of melancholy and longing for the times of
rebellion and carelessness. With a psychedelic sound of Hammond organ
and a dirty, unruly guitar clatter in the background.
HEAVY - like a burden of sadness and anger that has accompanied us in
music for generations, like the intensity of emotions.
ROCK - because as a band we belong in a great music drawer of this
genre's numerous influences, where the Stooges are mixed with Black
Sabbath and early Led Zeppelin with the 1960s garage punk rock.
