...WOLVPACK

WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM
DRONE/AMBIENT
USA

2014 will see the release of Celestite, an instrumental, experimental companion record to Celestial Lineage. Celestite sees the band take a deeper excursion into the crystalline synthesizer-driven domains that have long intrigued them. With the aid of producer Randall Dunn, the band unearthed a hidden soundscape that is only loosely tethered to their familiar sound, yet is still unmistakably the work of Wolves in the Throne Room.

Celestite will be the inaugural release on the band’s new label, Artemisia Records, which will be their outlet for future releases.

"Experimental" is just a word but Wolves in the Throne Room work with more than that simple description.
This band lives their music and with all feelings of every tone they create their own world on CELETITE. Every song includes an own beeing and has a function on this album. When you listen through the whole album you can hear something magical like a story. If you chose only one song   you can listen to a part of that story and so its hard to understand the whole creation. They are not a standard band and thats the point which makes this duo so unique. I'm very proud that one idea of a song "Initiation at Neudeg Alm"  is inspired of a mountain in salzburg/abtenau. Celestine is definitely not what most of the fans would have expected because it's very different to their albums before but i would say that this work is successful and would fit as a good soundtrack of a movie.
Thumb up for this album and also check out the great events of Speckjaga!

...pylar rituals...

PYLAR
NOISE/EXPERIMENTAL METAL

It's dark, it's evil, it's spritual

Founded in 1016, by several hierophants, shamans and druids, PYLAR have finally made it to record their first album. They released it on Knockturne Records. With a running time of 48mins, packed into 7 constructions, they really sent you into some ancient times full of rituals, full of alchemy. Under the cowls somebody allegedly saw members of Orthodox and Blooming Látigo but maybe this view was faked by hallucinogenics.
Also it's hard to define when you have several people on stage with masks and robes.
No. Keep in mind we're not talking about Ghost but same phenomenon.
Anyway. PYLAR do a great job with that mixture of noise, experimental metal and ritual chants.
From time to time i felt remembered to some experimenting krautrock acts. Especially those long improvisations with this odd voice creates a great flow. The heavier parts are absolutely ass-kickin'. Here you have to mention ¡Alzos, oh, puertas eternas!. Well structured and really heavy riffing at 7min. Definitely the song i would recommend the most on this record.
What shouldn't mean that the others aren't worth a listening.

It's really rare to find something atmospheric like this.

...Monachus for President...

Monachus
Sweden
Doom/Post-Hardcore
Alerta Antifascista Records
MONACHUS are back with their new 4 track heavy album "below" and I have the pleasure to write about it, while the vinyl is turning on my phonograph in full power, volume 30 (it's loud).
At first have a look at this awesome cover art, the green is beautiful and has a nice contrast with the sketch-like drawing, a very successful design. Next we will check out the material on the vinyl...
The first coloss of the album lasts 12 minutes without any trace of boredom, it's an atmospheric, psych doom song, slow and straight from the darkness. Sometimes the structure and the vocals remember me of NAAM, for sure a great opener. The Intro of "Curse" begins with a typical doom thing...to wit cheap and squeak and a first fat drowning riff. This song raises the tempo a little bit and sounds very rich and fat. The next song "Circles" has also a nice duration, some 12 minutes. This track functions as a mix of Post Rock, Doom and the melody really is a catchy tune and remains in memory.
Also the back vocals of the woman and the melancholic part of Erik agrees well with the entire song. "Onward" builds the exciting end on "Below" and the band once again gives the best to get my head shaking on and on. It is formed by some deep and crushing doom riffs up to slowmo parts and shows off the finest ballads. A song to sing along and drink beer with your friends...
To cut a long story short, Monachus from Sweden have figured out how to make high quality music. Thumbs up!!!

...hammer time!!!!

HAMMERHANDS
SLUDGE/DOOM/DRONE
CANADA

HAMMERHANDS debuts with an unforgiving epic. Aptly titled as “Glaciers,” HAMMERHANDS explores the coldness of the human condition in a matter-of-fact manner. With long droning parts, mixed with slowed down crushing riffs, amongst eerie death-march beats, the record plays as a requiem mass for the ill-fated. Fearlessly crafted, this Streetsville quartet has created a bewildering companion piece to natural disaster and manmade calamity alike.
Citing influence from musical acts such as Neurosis, Converge, The Melvins, and Sleep, HAMMERHANDS take the aggressive temperament of their contemporaries and present it in a poetically charged arrangement that is hauntingly engaging. This atmosphere translates well to their live show which is jarring and peculiar—hypnotic and apocalyptic.
HAMMERHANDS’ intent isn’t easy to pin down, but perhaps that is the power of their essence. Sanctified by soured attitudes, a commanding presence, and a proclivity towards retribution, HAMMERHANDS is the architect of our own devastation.

"If you like band's like Morkobot,Talbot, Eyehategod, Sleep...you will maybe like the Hammerhands...sometime it's seems like a chaos on music but similar it's hard, raw and evil sound who come's out of their cabinets, the vocal's remember me sometimes on Neurosis, not so deep but hard and rare. The sound of the cd is in the midfield, After a few songs makes the asynchronous and the comic rhythms of the listening pleasure but a little strong. A hard piece of music, somebody some are the teeth like a tough time...other's will love it...make your own mind!"

KIJE is in the introspective feeling void, just the void ; not in this dirty mark here. KIJE is for nothing, no one.

ESTONER
TALLIN/ESTONIA
STONER/PSYCH

While hidden away in smoke-filled cellars, occasionally emerging to conquer local venues, Estoner has finished their debut album "The Stump Will Rise", which takes listeners on a magical trip from grim forests to the vastness of the cosmos. Estoner's music is heavily psychedelic and psychedelically heavy, encrusted with clean vocals, massive guitar licks and weird noise from the planets orbit. The band has been influenced by various scenes and times - there's a pinch of prog, a spoonful of groove and even a few sprinkles of extreme metal, but the main inspiration has come from thick and juicy stoner-rock seasoned with raw doom metal. "The Stump Will Rise" contains 50 minutes of psychedelic heaviness divided into 7 songs, that take listeners far into a parallel dimension and leave them there. Drink up your mushroom tea!

...sons of kings...

SONS OF KINGS
Finland
Drone/Doom

Emersion draws thick grey lines between borders of alternative music. Meditative psychedelia and spacey soundscapes are both present on this new album which continues the journey of Sons of Kings. The creation is served in two parts, and with even more low frequencies with additional bass player, which renders the original trio into a quartet. The ambitious plan behind Emersion is to connect the dots between soundtrack-like atmospheres, non-typical progressions, kraut-continuity, stoner-fuzz, and post rock mentality. The outcome is, at least, an alternative way to approach the music.

...the force of psychedelic...

Strange Forces
Psychedelic Rock
Australia

Australian Band Strange Forces influences range from Spacerock to obscure New-Age Prophecies. It sounds like a black sanded beach below 20 suns. It’s multi dimensional dark-surf, powered by Peyeote and driven by dark matter induced by their pineal gland. Strange Forces deliver a washed out Lo-Fi Psychedelic experience channeling organic and digital sounds from one swell to another.

USA/NEW MEXICO
EXPERIMENTAL AMBIENT PSYCH ROCK

Pig are a 3 piece from New Mexico & the UK. Our music is heavy percussive stoner rock with psychedelic shadings. Influenced
by late 60's counter culture, Krautrock, doom and psychedelia, Pig make meaningful noise and mind altering vibes. Motorik beats
laden with effects, mantra's and feedback, Pig dig deep transmissions from the dogstar Sirius. Rise is Pig's 3rd full length album.
Pig are hoping to make "The White Album" and "Good Cop Dead Cop" freely available soon.

"PIG makes a sick sound between spooky electronic beats and loops but also smooth desert rock parts, psych parts and sometimes it sounds like a doom band .A colourful cocktail of sound and everybody can find a song that he likes. I do not like every song on "Rise" but i can say that "Kali Yuga","Eater" or "Meinhof" will kick your asses out of town. Do it!!!"
