...Beware of the Goblin...

 CHRON GOBLIN
STONER ROCK/HEAVY ROCK
CANADA

From the smoke-filled rooms of university to beer-stained stages across western Canada and abroad, Chron Goblin have been spreading the stoke wherever they go. Filling bars and venues alike since their 2009 inception, the party-hardened four-piece have amassed a loyal fan base with their addictive on-stage energy as well as two intoxicating rock concoctions: a self-titled EP in 2010 and 2011’s acclaimed full-length One Million From The Top.

Since then, the band has proved their well-earned notoriety with by landing gigs with some of the biggest names in heavy music, including Vista Chino (ex-Kyuss), Orange Goblin, Weedeater, Black Pussy, 3 Inches of Blood, Bison B.C., and The Devin Townsend Project. In the spring of 2013, their talents won them the coveted contest-spot at Desertfest London, making them the first Canadians to grace the stage of the sought-after stoner-rock gold Camden festival.

This demand stems in no small part from Chron Goblin’s artful, yet accessible blend of influences ranging from riff-rock to rockabilly, Sabbath to Stray Cats. With no style-boundaries to bind them, the group avoids self-imposed stagnancy and embrace evolution.

"Late after other great reviews but also my right to say that this band is awesome, I know this for weeks but I can't find time to write it down here. Now my time has come to do this. This Canadian formation of a heavy Stoner rock band with the real rock attitude has created their own mix of excellentand high quality music. I don't want to repeat the other reviewers so I will keep it short. Chron Goblins debut album kicks ass and have create a place in our music lovers' hearts. Songs like "Control, Live for the Living, Lonely Prey or Give No More" show us the musicians from their best side. A new great band is born, beware."

...kneel down for this guys!!!

GREY CZAR
AUSTRIA
STONER ROCK/HEAVY ROCK

Grey Czar is a four member tinnitus generating monstrosity that derives its doubtful origin from the shadows of the howling cliffs of the austrian alps. What once started as a reason to retain one's youth by repeating one's follies quickly became an unstoppable machine that slaughters every aspect of modern music.

"The new four tracked album of the mighty stoner/alternative rock formation "Grey Czar" is available now on CD,Vinyl or as digital download on bandcamp. The record is more different and mellow than their debut album. I like to see the development of the band, they form and fiddle on their sound since 2012 and so now they have found a cool own outstanding, original sound , which does not meet the standard. Thats the reason why i like this band so much. . The quality of the record is very professional and comes full and heavy, Roland Hickmann doeas a great job on the vocals again, the riffs are heavy and fat, the solos and licks perfectly adjusted and the bass keeps roillin hard. The drumer as well punches the shit out of his stack. Exactly how it should be...Grey Czar points with a great stage performance and gleam as a good live act. You can see this guys on a show of SHLGYBT on 7.march together with the Black Rainbows in Salzburg at the MARK. On the whole I can only recommend „The Men Who Harvest The Sea“ is not only for long-established stoner rock listeners, this record will appreciate the whole family including your grandmother and her cat. My favourite track on this album:All"

...Hola Gringo!!!

GRINGO
STONER ROCK/METAL
UK
Catacomb Records

UK guitar power is what you need! And it's exactly what you get when you listen to these 4 guys from Cleobury Mortimer. Dirty fuzz sounds and dynamic song structures all the way. Their first record „The cold burn“ is a hell of a headnut.
„Decaying Orbit“ is the first round of sword-like riffing, which find it's way to the dephts of your brains. Beware of toxicated ear canal infections in a positive way. Like i said really great accented song structure.
Short break with „Legalise it“. Compareable to „dying into light“ by Danava. Atmospheric 40 seconds but let's go further.
Your stonerhead is grooving? Yeah the reason is „Babylon“. The third killer track on this record and definitely my favorite.

The staccato sound fits quite well. It doesn't get too muddy but still fucking dirty. Cool, innovative transitions, groovy, rolling drums and a great voice. Stoner Metal at it's best. Or better Midland heaviness at it's best.
Hard to top that. Probably that's the reason why „The void“ didn't kicked me that much but it's a solid track anyway.
The second bridge arrives with „The Journey“. Spheric, somekind of a futuristic depressive mood which leads you to the right start point for „Curiosity“, the next 5 min piece with somekind of tragical not to say apocalyptic sense.
Same phenomenon with „Transmission“, the short introduction for „The cold burn“.
Head-shaking-time. Beside the heaviness there's always a great melodical aspect on it. And definitely worth to mention at this point, the solo at the end.

After another short introduction the tenth track „High Times“ arrives. Still grooving, but also in exactly the same manner like before. For my taste the beginning is a bit too focused on the vocals but ok who cares. And also they start the typical big-balls-riffing at 3:30min...from this point, it's brilliant.
„You stay“ heavy stuff...starts really doomy. Appreciated that a lot. Then they turn into some heroic let's-clench-fists parts, what was ok because they find their way back to the more focused doom part from the beginning.
„The great provider“ is in the same manner as the short introductions but this time a bit more harmonical. Floating, beautiful background with vocals, followed by the last raise your hands for the big end called „No way back“.

I even would say one of the best tracks on this record. Perfect mixture between in-your-face-riffs and fuck-you-all-melodies. Soph Day from Alunah does guest vocals in this brilliant closing track.
All in all a great debut album. Let's see what comes next from these guys.
Definitely worth a listening!

...Manthra Dei...back again!!!

Manthra Dei
Italy
Stoner/Psych
Acid Cosmonaut Records

Manthra Dei is an Italian stoner/psych/space rock four-piece that brings us some serious intergalactic soul/blues jams and let us fly in their colourful world...

The band's self-titled debut starts with the mighty long and trippy song named "Stone Face" and it makes you sure to know that the following song's are not more worst than this one, because also "Urjammer "(The faster 70ies song) ,"Xolotl" (great licks and solo structures) follows with the same power and it brings attention to the point. If you like bands with a lot of vocals and a nice jam atmosphere like Causa Sui, Earthless,The Machine or others, you definitely will like Manthra Dei because they have big cojones in they music and you can hear that.

With "Blue Phantom" the listener get the option for a free walk into a church and can listen to a spooky interlude followed by the last power and genius song "Legendary Lamb"this song gives again all the power of the band before the smooth acoustic song of "Stone Face" brings the record to a cozy end. Thank's for this great album...see ya soon on the road!!!

It's released in October 20 on CD through Acid Cosmonaut Records. Also available as Bandcamp download and don't forget the release party on 22th November.

SHE LOVES PABLO
CROATIA
STONER ROCK

She Loves Pablo is a four-piece stoner/groove rock band from Zagreb, Croatia. Started in late 2005. as a stoner-rock duo (Domagoj – guitars/vocals, Leo – drums), the band immediately recorded its first demo, entitled simply «She Loves Pablo». They played their first dozen shows in and around their hometown, sneaking into the Croatian stoner scene which was rapidly growing at the time, and is now kicking ass with amazing bands such as Ruiz, Cojones, Stonebride, Umor, Toro, and «Sonic Doom Records», an indie label making it all easier. In 2006 the band recorded their second CD, an EP entitled «Country Home», where they experimented with a different, more radio-friendly sound. The following year was a year of change. Hrvoje (bass) joined in, adding that low-frequency ass-kicking which was missing. This gave the band room to experiment and to step away from the stoner-rock stereotypes, combining blues influences with a massive, psychedelic groove.

The band’s debut album, Mother Of All was recorded and self-released in 2009. It contains 10 tracks from almost every era of the band, and beautifully sums up the work of She Loves Pablo.
In the summer of 2010 the band once again took in a new member. Jimi joined, filling in all the holes and making Pablo’s wall of sound even bigger.
In the early 2011 a new single „Gamblin’“ was recorded, and Pablo’s first official video was born.

...from the land of the cojones...

Voodoo Mule
Stoner Rock
Croatia

A hybrid with an error, a not so clever idea gone worse, a menace that bucks you off with a hint of voodoo from under a top hat black... With a hint of sugar, spice and everything nice, that is how this sonic behemoth came about.
The idea behind Voodoo Mule was a simple one, no indie, just loud and filthy. These are the secret ingredients that bond together an ensemble of three with Hippopotamus on drums, Iguana on bass, and Jagnje on guitar and vocals.

This is the form in which we`ve been working since March 2010 and performing since February 2011. We made our first recordings in February 2011 when we immortalized our first three songs that formed our first officially unofficial demo that bloggers labeled it to be stoner rock. Since then we have covered our homeland Slovenia throughout and our hometown Ljubljana several times as well, with disturbingly loud riff driven rock shows. Just couple of highlighted shows were at Festival Lent, Paranoid Piknik Open Air, Metal Mania Open Air and supporting bands like Count Raven, Karma To Burn, Pagan Altar, Jucifer, Suuns, Rozbub and many many many more.

get it for a kiss here

Our plans for the future are as simple as the basic idea that holds us together, play loud, play out, stay filthy and respect your roots.

"Voodoo Mule are full of energy and power, hard hitting toms and trashy drum work on and on...great desert riding riffs surround smooth and organic solo parts and other effect walls who makes the sound complete...the vocals are behind the music like on a old kyuss record, i think that the sound on this record sound's like the coming Vista Chino album...raw, dirty and played with sand filled tube amps!!! That's the spirit of the whole stoner rock network...Thumb up!!!"

...half animal, half machine...

ANIMAL MACHINE
Stoner/Doom
Mexico

An(n)imal Machine is a stoner doom trio from Mexico.
It's a extremely dry and hot sound similar Buffalo,Kyuss,Dozer...
The three dude's really know how good "stoner rock" works.
With these three tracks on the free EP they have earned a good rating....The percentage terms it is almost 100% efficient!!

Tracks

"Condenado"
I like the groovy driving beginning of the song, the short fat hard hitting riffs and  also the psych parts in "Condenado" are a really nice opener for the EP.

"A fistful of Dollars"
I like the Western Movie from  Sergio Leone and also the song of ANIMAL MACHINE...it's start's like a kind of "Green Machine" and and starts to make powerful thrust!!! But a good song at all...I think
it is pulled a little too far into the length but damn!!!it's ok!

"Rage"
Short title, long song...with a flanger concomitant start...into a grove rich song structure.
A really nice last song, big thank's for this nice 30 minutes of heavy riffing and ass kicking groove!!!

Strange Forces
Psychedelic Rock
Australia

Australian Band Strange Forces influences range from Spacerock to obscure New-Age Prophecies. It sounds like a black sanded beach below 20 suns. It’s multi dimensional dark-surf, powered by Peyeote and driven by dark matter induced by their pineal gland. Strange Forces deliver a washed out Lo-Fi Psychedelic experience channeling organic and digital sounds from one swell to another.

...the grass is green...

GRASS
Stoner/Doom
SPAIN

There's no doubt Rock is going through one his most sweet and sour times. Old rockers are dying, people steal the art of distortion and swank of it, and the venues fail because of the languish demand of Rock.

In front of this sad panorama, the most incredible thing is that more than ever, there's a whole generation commited to guitar and drums; new music is created, more labels are emerging and a small redoubt sticks loyal to the sound of a plugged in LesPaul.

GRASS is part of this generation.

GRASS is only 5 more people willing to move their asses, meet people, get in the van for unfinishing hours, bad eating, listen to Motörhead as loud as our health allows and applaud every human being moving and singing in the crowd.

Globalization and modern life made posible to us having a wide range of influences, with no specific order: Led Zeppelin, tobacco, Black Sabbath, Ron & Cola, the pengüins, Bar Angel in Masnou town, Kim Jong Il, Jimi Hendrix, Sheer Terror, Clint Eastwood, mate herb….

On grey days, GRASS wants color.

...touch my soul...

SOUL THIEF
Stoner/Psych
studio2recs
England

SOUL THIEF formed in 2009 when Robert Mathews joined Stuart Barton & Marcus Gage for some sessions they had been working on.

An immediate creativity was sparked with haunting etherial vocals and mighty pounding bass grooves. Guitars ripping up those riffs and shredding supernovae solos while drums thump like rocks being split as the band bring pieces to the brink of Armageddon and then lay them down again with sweet soul kisses.

Out of this union a music emerged that they referred to as Space Funk - mix of heavy psychedelic stoner space rock with the odd unusual time signature and a smooth aftertaste.

...great mix of nice moments...

DISASTROID
Stoner Rock
U.S.A.

...today in the quality control of stonerhead...
Disastroid from the hot and spicy
city San Francisco with a bag full of great stuff...the self-titled album starts with a classical stoner sound like Q.O.T.S.A, Fu Manchu or a little bit like Mondo Generator...the song is named "Sunshine"... jarrr properly a smile in my face, the next song is called "Room in my Head"...a really smooth song with a exciting atmosphere and a cool structure..."Money and Guilt" comes with more speed and let groove my brain to me then "Gamera" comes out of my stereo unit...groovy and a little bit more aggressiveness...

"Eternal Home" sounds like a good song of Iguana but with the personal touch of Disastroid of course..."Happy Channel" remind me on a mix of Brain Police and Jack Black and some slower Slayer parts but i like this Song...pure Josh Homme riffing out of this band supported by a powerful voice...awesome...

The grande finale dude's and duderina's...a song to relax and to dance...space rock with some incomprehensible sound samples...great ending.

Doomsday

Doomraiser
Bloodrock Records
Doom-Metal
Italy

DOOMRAISER are a doom metal band from Italy and ERASING THE REMEMBRANCE is their second full length studio album. They were founded in 2003 with only one line-up change since then. At the time of their debut HEAVY DRUNKEN DOOM they seemed to have a more metal-like attitude but you can't claim that from their recent output. Listening to ERASING THE REMEMBRANCE the first time leaves you in a good mood and makes you want to slap the musicians on the back and tell them “well done”.
At least if you like this kind of doom stuff. Nice, fluffy stoner rock of the heavier kind with several doom passages. Mostly the essentials - 70ies style guitars, bass, drums and appealing, relaxing vocals.
There are spoken word passages, keyboards and FX too, but they are only used modestly. I like that. Certainly the musicians know how to use their instruments and how to create a groovy or creepy atmosphere.

Well, apart from that nothing special... it seems. But if you give the album a closer look you will notice there's more under the surface. First of all it runs through your ears in one go, from the beginning to the end. This is actually a lot for a band to achieve!
Listening the album several times you will notice that it has no flaws, no weak spots or fillers. No matter if it's a 2:45 acoustic track (“Head of the River”) or a 10min chunk of doom (“Another Black Day under the Dead Sun”) all their arrangements are beautifully put together without sounding artificial.
The longer songs on this album feature several style and mood changes. If you want to get a grasp of what DOOMRAISER are about, listen to the 15min “Vanitas”. All in all, this is some major Doom Band!
